Toronto and Durham police investigating after needles reportedly discovered inside Halloween treats
Police are investigating multiple reports of needles and metal pins in Halloween treats, and no injuries have been reported.
On Monday, Quebec provincial police confirmed they are investigating two reports of sharp metal objects found in Halloween candy after families filed reports following trick-or-treating on Saturday, October 31.
One incident involved a needle discovered in chocolate in Drummondville, about 100 kilometres northeast of Montreal, while a metal pin was found in a treat in Saint-Marcel, a small municipality of 454 residents.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel urged parents to sort through candy hauls, inspect all wrappers for tampering signs, and discard unwrapped items to prevent potential harm.
No injuries were reported in either incident, authorities confirmed, as police continue investigating the cases and encourage the public to report any suspicious objects to local stations.
Police acknowledge there may be other undiscovered instances beyond the two reported; one parent expressed concern, stating, "I can't believe that even now in 2026, we can't celebrate with our children without feeling stressed.
