Branko Bijelic faces second-degree murder charges, while Sarah Bijelic is charged with manslaughter after a yearlong investigation, police said.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced charges against two people in connection with the homicide of 11-year-old Kai Pavlovic in Burnaby.
Police were first contacted regarding Kai on September 26, 2025, when a well-being check was requested; Burnaby RCMP later launched a billboard campaign to raise awareness about his disappearance.
Branko Bijelic, arrested on October 30, faces charges of second-degree murder and indignity to human remains, while Sarah Bijelic is charged with one count of manslaughter.
"There are no words to accurately express the sadness surrounding the circumstances," Sgt. Freda Fong of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said, acknowledging the investigation's impact on the community.
The charges follow more than a year of investigating by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which scheduled a media availability for 2 p.m. to provide further updates.
