Avelino Corma, John F. Hartwig and Helmut Schwarz win the Borders Award for laying the groundwork for dreaming about sustainable chemistry

The €400,000 Borders of Knowledge in Basic Sciences award has been awarded to Avelino Corma (Institute of Chemical Technology in Valencia), John F. Hartwig (University of California) and Helmut Schwarz (Technical University of Berlin) for their contributions in the field of catalysis, which have allowed to control and accelerate chemical reactions to obtain products in multiple industrial processes.

The BBVA Foundation has awarded its Borders of Knowledge Award in the category of Basic Sciences to Avelino Corma, an ad honorem researcher of the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC) and founder of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), a joint center of the CSIC and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), for “encouraging fundamental advances in the field of catalysis”.
