Necas Agrees to Deal
- On Thursday, Martin Necas signed an eight-year extension with the Colorado Avalanche starting next season and averaging $11.5 million annually, the club announced.
- The Avalanche, having received Necas in return for Mikko Rantanen, valued his strong season before the trade from the Carolina Hurricanes as a top-line asset.
- The contract includes $60.4 million in signing bonuses and a full no-trade clause for seven years, while Necas averages 21:14 ice time and has a 65.3% expected-goals share with Nathan MacKinnon, Avalanche center.
- Re-Signing Necas means the Colorado Avalanche now have nine players under contract for more than three years and Necas' contributions helped the team enter Thursday in a five-way tie for most NHL points.
- The salary-cap outlook shows the NHL salary cap rising to $104 million in 2026-27 and $113.5 million in 2027-28, while defenseman Cale Makar becomes eligible to sign on July 1, 2026.
