New Person of Interest Identified in Brown University Shooting, May Be Linked to MIT Professor’s Killing: Report
- Dec. 18, 2025, New England law enforcement is pursuing a new person of interest in the Brown University shooting that killed two and wounded nine in the Barus & Holley engineering building.
- Within the past 24 hours investigators disclosed they are examining whether the Brown University shooting and the killing of MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro are connected, after FBI Boston Special Agent Ted Docks said earlier they saw no link.
- Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, was shot multiple times at his Gibbs Street, Brookline home and later died at a Boston hospital; he directed MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center since last year with more than 250 staff.
- Authorities have canvassed neighborhoods, received hundreds of tips, and set up an FBI tip webpage at FBI.gov/brownuniversityshooting and hotlines at 1-800-CALL-FBI and Providence Police 401-272-3121, with a press update scheduled for 4 p.m.
- Experts note that surveillance footage, cell phone and internet records and DNA will aid the search, as Joseph Giacalone said, `They have the advantage of chaos in their favor`.
