DELHI, INDIA, AUG 3 – TMC demands apology and action after Delhi Police referred to Bengali as a 'Bangladeshi language' in an investigation involving eight suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
- On August 3, 2025, the All India Trinamool Congress criticized Delhi Police for seeking a translator for 'Bangladeshi language' in a July 29 letter about eight suspected migrants.
- Amid a case involving suspected illegal migrants, the Lodhi Colony Police Station's officer wrote to Banga Bhawan requesting translation of documents containing the text written in the 'Bangladeshi language' for eight persons suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals.
- In her social media post, Mamata Banerjee called the letter 'scandalous, insulting, anti-national, unconstitutional' and urged protests against the Union government.
- The TMC demanded an unconditional apology, immediate correction, and strict action, including suspending Investigating Officer Amit Dutt and apologies from Delhi Police, BJP4India, and the Home Ministry under Amit Shah.
- The Trinamool leadership said protests will continue until next year's Assembly polls, amid allegations of harassment of Bengali migrant workers in BJP-ruled states.
