Apple has reportedly cut more than 200 jobs across its Vision Pro, Siri and AI teams as it redirects resources towards smart glasses and next-generation AI products. Around 100 positions have been eliminated from the Vision Pro organisation, while roughly another 100 roles have been cut across the Siri and broader software divisions, according to Bloomberg. The restructure will largely shut down a team responsible for developing gaming experiences for Vision Pro and reduce the unit producing Apple’s immersive 3D video content. Immersive video has been a major selling point for the mixed-reality headset, but individual episodes can reportedly cost several million dollars to produce. Those costs have become difficult to justify given Vision Pro’s limited user base. Apple is expected to continue producing a smaller amount of immersive content internally while encouraging third-party studios to support the platform. The Siri cuts are linked to Apple’s transition from its older voice-assistant tech to a new AI-powered architecture. That shift requires employees with different technical expertise, prompting Apple to eliminate some positions, move resources and create new roles. Employees in Apple’s Intelligent Systems Experience team, which integrates AI features across the company’s devices, have also been affected. Apple confirmed it was realigning teams to reflect its changing product priorities. “While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” Apple said. “We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple.” The cuts highlight Apple’s reported shift away from making Vision Pro its immediate computing priority and towards lighter, Meta-style smart glasses (pictured above). The restructure comes just a month after Apple reportedly halted development of a cheaper and lighter Vision Pro successor, with Samsung Display preparing to end work on a lower-cost micro-OLED panel intended for the device. Those glasses are not expected to support the advanced gaming or immersive video experiences offered by Vision Pro, helping explain why those divisions have borne the brunt of the reductions. Apple has reportedly assured employees that Vision Pro and its visionOS operating system are not being abandoned. The company is still considering releasing another Vision Pro model as early as late 2028, although its near-term hardware focus is expected to remain on AI-powered glasses.
