Police say they will not release CCTV footage in Ann Widdecombe case in new update
Police say the case is not being treated as terrorism and a 26-year-old man arrested in the probe has been released without charge.
Devon and Cornwall Police have made an active operational decision not to release any CCTV footage or descriptions of potential suspects regarding the murder investigation of former politician Ann Widdecombe.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman explained that disclosing these visual materials or suspect details prematurely could compromise active lines of enquiry and prejudice future investigative opportunities.
Detectives working on the case revealed that they believe the 78-year-old former MP was fatally attacked at her isolated Devon home at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, roughly 24 hours before her body was discovered.
A 28-year-old white British national was arrested late Saturday in South Yorkshire on suspicion of murder with the support of counterterrorism officers, though authorities maintain there is no indication the crime is terrorism-related or politically motivated.
The latest arrest came shortly after a 26-year-old man who was initially detained on Friday was officially released from custody and ruled out of the ongoing investigation.
