Milan's Olympic Cauldron Offers Sneak Peek Ahead of Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony features 1,300 performers from 27 countries in a multi-city event uniting tradition and innovation, supported by 950 staff, officials said.

  • On February 6, the opening ceremony will take place at Milan's San Siro Stadium, featuring more than 1,300 cast members from over 27 countries and at least 950 operators and technical staff.
  • The Milano Cortina Foundation described the show as 'an event of global scope, the result of a choral project involving thousands of people and artistic, technical and organizational skills of the highest level,' using the anthem 'Fantasia Italiana' by Dardust to evoke the host territories and Italian tradition.
  • Production rehearsals involved over 500 musicians who logged more than 700 hours, featuring 182 original designs, more than 1,400 costumes, 1,500 pairs of shoes, 110 make-up artists, and 70 hair stylists.
  • NBC will air the ceremony nationally with streaming on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com, featuring performances by Mariah Carey, Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli and Sabrina Impacciatore, starting at 2 p.m. ET with an 8 p.m. ET encore.
  • Mascots Tina and Milo, both stoats, will appear throughout the Olympics, with competitions starting Wednesday, Feb. 4, and the men's downhill wrapping up Feb. 7 in Bormio.
