Albertsons Companies Q2 Earnings Call Highlights
The grocer said same-store sales fell 0.8% and net income dropped to $51.5 million as it targets a fresh turnaround plan.
Albertsons withdrew its fiscal 2026 financial outlook on Tuesday after reporting a steep profit decline, with net income falling to $51.5 million from $168.5 million a year earlier.
CEO Susan Morris said the grocer accumulated too many initiatives and layers of complexity over time, increasing costs and slowing operations. To change course, Albertsons will simplify its structure and focus on core areas like price and freshness.
Comparable store sales fell 0.8% during the second quarter, following lagging market-share trends. Executive Chair Meg Whitman said the company's performance does not reflect asset quality and that faster cost-cutting is needed.
Interim CFO Cody Perdue said the company will not provide updated financial projections until the business review concludes in the fourth quarter ending February 2027. Morris indicated Albertsons will examine its workforce to save money over the next 12 to 18 months.
Albertsons expects to unveil a 'fresh financial framework' and comprehensive turnaround plan by its fourth-quarter earnings call, targeting an investor day in spring 2027. This effort follows the collapse of a proposed $24.6 billion merger with Kroger in December 2024, blocked on antitrust grounds.
