Kroger Memo Discloses Plan to Slash Thousands of Corporate Jobs
The cuts will affect more than a third of Kroger’s corporate staff as Greg Foran pushes artificial intelligence to streamline operations and fund store workers.
On Monday, CEO Greg Foran announced Cincinnati-based Kroger plans to eliminate approximately 3,000 corporate positions over the next three years to integrate artificial intelligence into the grocer's workflow.
Foran cited the need to simplify operations and reduce duplicative work, noting the company has too many layers; the restructuring aims to make Kroger leaner while reinvesting savings into frontline associates.
These reductions will disproportionately impact Kroger's Cincinnati headquarters and hubs in Charlotte and Portland, following previous cuts of over 1,000 corporate jobs last year.
Meanwhile, a court filing unsealed Monday revealed Albertsons is seeking $8 million from Kroger regarding a failed merger bid two years ago, alleging Kroger leaders made "lowball offers" to federal regulators.
Decisions regarding impacted roles will be communicated in the coming months, while Kroger simultaneously advances its July acquisition of Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion.
