Air India Cuts International Flights Amid Middle East Conflict
The airline said airspace restrictions and record jet fuel prices are forcing it to suspend several routes and trim frequencies across its global network.
Air India announced Wednesday it will temporarily cut about 250 weekly international flights between June and August, citing record-high jet fuel prices and airspace restrictions.
The Iran war has triggered airspace closures, forcing longer reroutings and driving a sharp rise in global jet fuel costs affecting airlines worldwide.
Several routes, including Delhi-Chicago and Mumbai-New York, face temporary suspension, while frequencies on Delhi-San Francisco have been reduced from 10x to 7x weekly through August.
The airline strongly denied reports claiming it had suspended all international flights, calling such allegations "malicious" and "completely false," while confirming over 1,200 monthly flights remain operational.
Amid financial strain, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson recently urged employees to reduce discretionary spending, with reports suggesting losses exceeding Rs 22,000 crore for FY26.
