Ailing Kuki-Zo MLA airlifted from Imphal to Delhi
- On Sunday, Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte was airlifted from Imphal, Manipur, to a private hospital in Gurugram for advanced treatment, official reports said.
- After his condition worsened on Friday and Saturday, Valte was admitted to the ICU at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital; his May 4, 2023 attack injuries have impaired his mobility, speech and memory.
- Taking personal charge, the Chief Minister monitored Valte overnight and arranged an air ambulance escorted by the district Deputy Commissioner and BJP legislators to Imphal Airport.
- He was shifted around 3 p.m. on Sunday from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital and the air ambulance departed shortly thereafter while doctors from Imphal stayed in contact by tele-conference.
- This evacuation highlights wider consequences of the 2023 conflict, which left more than 260 dead and 62,000 displaced and saw Valte visit Imphal Valley for the first time in almost three years.
