The highest German court is expected to occupy three judges. A two-thirds majority in the Bundestag is necessary with the help of the opposition. But black-red seems already divided among itself.
Federal President Steinmeier called for a careful consideration of the question of a banning procedure against the AfD.

At its party congress, the SPD decided to prepare an AfD ban procedure. A federal-state working group is to collect evidence of the party's unconstitutionality and should it be sufficient, the Social Democrats want to insist on a ban application before the Federal Constitutional Court. Hopefully, this will not become an independent goal, like the failed Compact ban.
