- Egypt captain Mohamed Salah brings two African Player of the Year titles, while Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain defender, finished sixth in the 2025 Ballon d'Or and is a favourite.
- The nominations set up a contest as Victor Osimhen will battle nine other players, and last year's winner Ademola Lookman did not make the list.
- The shortlist spans clubs in Egypt, England, Germany, Morocco, Turkey, United States and includes Premier League contenders Pape Matar Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye.
