Cartels Flew Drones 60,000 Times Along US Border in Six-Month Period
U.S. SOUTHERN BORDER, JUL 23 – Over 27,000 drone flights were detected near the U.S. southern border in the last six months of 2024, used by cartels for smuggling and hostile surveillance, DHS officials said.
- Mexican cartels conducted nearly 60,000 drone flights near the U.S.-Mexico border during a six-month period, according to Steven Willoughby from the Department of Homeland Security .
- Willoughby warned that it is only a matter of time before drone attacks occur against U.S. citizens or law enforcement.
- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexican authorities are in permanent collaboration with U.S. officials regarding drone threats.
