Abducted Oyo students, teachers still within national park

Makinde said security agencies are pursuing every credible lead as the children and teachers remain held after 27 days in captivity.

  • On Friday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that pupils and teachers abducted 27 days ago from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle remain within the Old Oyo National Park axis as security agencies intensify rescue efforts.
  • Makinde revealed the search covers approximately 2,500 square kilometres across 10 local government areas, including Oriire Local Government Area, where terrain requires "patience, coordination and persistence."
  • Urging public cooperation, Makinde requested residents report suspicious activities through the toll-free Oyo State Citizens Enquiry Number, 615, staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Addressing the "growing anxiety" of families, Makinde assured that victims remain at the centre of daily operations, stating, "We cannot share the details of what we are doing, but you can rest assured that every single day, we continue to pursue every credible lead."
  • The governor cautioned against circulating unverified information, warning it could jeopardize rescue operations: "Please rely on official channels for information. These are sensitive matters, and we must avoid anything that could jeopardise rescue efforts.
