A tropical storm has formed in Atlantic, but it’s expected to move away from the coast
ATLANTIC OCEAN, AUG 5 – Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth named storm of 2025, formed with sustained winds of 45 mph and is forecast to continue moving northeast away from U.S. shores, officials said.
- On Sunday, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reported Tropical Storm Dexter formed late Sunday, heading east-northeast with 45 mph winds about 255 miles northwest of Bermuda.
- Experts note hurricane season spans June 1 through Nov. 30, with activity increasing after mid-August as the peak around Sept. 10 approaches.
- Tracking three disturbances, the National Hurricane Center notes Invest 95L about 180 miles off North Carolina has a 50% two-day development chance, with others at 30% and 20%.
- With no coastal watches or warnings issued, slight strengthening is forecast over the next few days and re-intensification may occur later this week over cooler Northern Atlantic waters, authorities caution.
- Although no hazard warnings are in effect, Juan Vázquez Montalvo predicts the Atlantic Basin will enter a `favorable phase` starting August, active until mid-October, increasing formation chances.
