ONTARIO, CANADA, JUL 30 – The initiative led to 80 arrests and 165 charges targeting buyers of sexual services from exploited youth, supported by a $345 million provincial anti-trafficking strategy investment.
- On July 30, the Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-Led Joint Forces Strategy announced 80 arrests and 165 charges across Ontario.
- Built on inter-agency collaboration, the IJFS was established after the Government of Ontario announced funding on March 6, 2020, to unite municipal, provincial, and First Nations police services.
- Targeting buyers of sexual services from minors, police officers posed as vulnerable youth to disrupt illegal activity.
- The Ontario government announced it would invest $345 million to renew its Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy and launched a new Children at Risk of Exploitation Unit in Kenora on July 30.
- Building on its first four years, service providers helped more than 29,000 people affected by human trafficking, with the Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy training over 1,000 front-line workers and serving more than 200 children annually.
