60% Of Disaster Public Housing Still to Be Planned; Construction Delays Caused Largely by Challenges in Securing Land
With Tuesday marking 18 months since the Noto Peninsula Earthquake struck Ishikawa, Toyama, and Niigata Prefectures, claiming 616 lives, including disaster-related deaths, securing permanent housing for disaster victims remains a pressing issue.
Of the 377 people in Ishikawa Prefecture who died from mental and physical stress in the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day last year, at least 57 were deemed to have died as a result of "travel," such as evacuating to a distant place or being taken to a hospital, according to documents released by local governments and interviews conducted on the 1st. All of them were over 60 years old.
