Russia says it hit Ukraine with hypersonic and ballistic missiles, state news agencies report
Ukrainian officials said the strike damaged about 50 sites and injured at least 83 people as rescue teams searched collapsed buildings.
- On Sunday, Russia attacked Kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles, including a hypersonic Oreshnik missile that shook the city center and damaged residential buildings and government infrastructure.
- Moscow described the strikes as retaliation for Kyiv's attacks on Russian civilian targets. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed the operation targeted Ukrainian military command facilities and industrial enterprises.
- The attack involved 600 strike drones and 90 missiles, with air defences destroying or jamming 549 drones and 55 missiles. At least two people were killed and 56 injured as explosions damaged 40 locations across nine districts.
- Kyiv resident Svitlana Onofryichuk, 55, said, "I am very sorry that I have to say goodbye to Kyiv now." Another resident, 74-year-old Yevhen Zosin, described being thrown by a shock wave when his apartment was blown to pieces.
- President Vladimir Putin previously described the Oreshnik as traveling "like a meteorite" and capable of destroying bunkers "three, four or more floors down." The weapon is allegedly immune to missile defense systems, potentially marking a significant escalation.
