Five Labourers From Punjab Shot Dead in Balochistan's Washuk
Police said the victims were shot multiple times before the attackers fled, and security forces launched a search operation as bodies were sent to Punjab.
On Sunday, armed men gunned down five workers from Punjab in Mashkail, Washuk district, near the Pakistan-Iran border; Deputy Commissioner Abdul Majeed Sarparah confirmed the attackers fled after opening fire on shops.
In recent years, Balochistan has witnessed frequent attacks against labourers hailing from Punjab, with security sources stating militants are increasingly targeting "soft targets" on ethnic grounds to spread fear.
The attackers killed all five workers—identified as Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Qadeer, Mohsin, and Bilal—at the scene; sources linked the assault to Fitna al-Hindustan, a term Pakistan uses for India-backed terrorists.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident as a "barbaric and cowardly act," vowing to bring perpetrators to justice and protect every citizen.
Security forces launched a search operation following the attack amid ongoing Operation Shaban, which has eliminated 109 terrorists since July 5, as authorities prepare to transport victims' bodies to Punjab.
