1 dead and 1 injured in a shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort
A non-student suspect faces murder and first-degree assault charges after the shooting at a historically Black university with about 2,200 students, officials said.
- On Tuesday, Kentucky State University reported a deadly shooting outside Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, killing one student and critically wounding another; a non-student suspect was taken into custody.
- Frankfort Police Department said the shooting appeared tied to a personal dispute and described it as an "isolated incident" near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, the second in four months in the area of south campus.
- Responding to an "active aggressor" call at about 3:35 p.m., Frankfort Police Department, KSU Campus Police and Franklin County Sheriff's Office secured the scene, issued a BRED Alert, and placed campus on lockdown.
- Kentucky State University canceled classes and finals for the week, is in contact with families of the victims, and offers counseling to students, faculty and staff as the fall semester ends Dec. 12.
- Authorities identified the suspect as Jacob Lee Board of Evansville, Indiana and charged him with murder and first-degree assault, and CNN analysis counted this as the 73rd shooting on school grounds this year.
