Pink Triangle atop San Francisco's Twin Peaks vandalized, police make arrest
SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUN 18 – A 19-year-old was arrested after defacing the Pink Triangle, a 30-year-old Pride Month installation made of 175 tarps covering one acre on Twin Peaks, San Francisco officials said.
On June 10, San Francisco police apprehended 19-year-old Lester Bamacajeronimo for damaging the large pink LGBTQ+ symbol displayed on the hill above the Castro neighborhood.
The vandalism occurred amid Pride Month and targeted the 30th annual installation symbolizing LGBTQ+ resilience and history.
The Pink Triangle consists of 175 pink tarps covering about one acre and commemorates gay men persecuted during Nazi Germany's regime.
Mayor Daniel Lurie denounced the vandalism as an act of hatred that goes against the spirit of San Francisco and emphasized that such behavior will not be accepted.
Authorities seized vandalism tools as evidence, charges are pending, and officials emphasized the Pink Triangle's lasting message of pride and unity.
