Van Buren Awarded $50K Grant To Upgrade Technology

Van Buren County awarded a $50,000 grant Thursday to improve the county’s technology. Van Buren County UT Extension Agent Chris Binkley said the county received the grant after he and County Mayor David Sullivan participated in several trainings where they learned how to get federal grants. Spencer Street Funding Concerns In New Budget

Spencer Aldermen approved an estimated $1.3 million budget on first reading Thursday night with concerns about funding for road improvements. Spencer Mayor Alisa Farmer said the budget includes some $56,300 for the city’s street fund. Spencer officials looking into ways to handle the rising issue of jake braking on Highway 111. Trucks sometime use the process where the exhaust system, not the brakes, can be used to slow vehicles.
