UP POLITICS: Yogi Hands Jobs to 912 Police Recruits as Employment Battle Heats Up

Lucknow witnessed a major appointment-letter ceremony as UttarPradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over appointment lettersto newly selected candidates joining the state police force. A total of 912 candidates selected for posts including Police Sub-Inspector (Confidential), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts) received their appointment letters during the programme. Addressing the newly appointed candidates, the Chief Minister congratulated them and said that a transparent recruitment process strengthens publicconfidence in the government and its institutions. Yogi Adityanath alsospoke about the changes made in recruitment procedures after 2017, recalling the problems he said had existed earlier, including allegations of irregularities, recommendations, paper leaks and questions over the selection process. He said the government had worked to bring greater transparency to recruitment through institutions including the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission and Uttar Pradesh Subordinate ServicesSelection Commission. The appointment-letter programme comes amid an increasingly prominent political debate over jobs and employmentin Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The ruling BJP is highlighting government recruitment and appointment ceremonies, while the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav have questioned the government’s employment claims and raised concerns about the nature and scale of jobs being provided.
