Turkish Justice Minister: Street appeals are unlawful

Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc stated that meetings and demonstrations are a fundamental right, but that street calls made on the basis of ongoing judicial investigations are unlawful and completely unacceptable.

Making statements about the terror investigation targeting IMM, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said, 'So far, the procedures for 90 people are ongoing. The path they are following is not the path. CHP Chairman Özel's call to the streets is wrong.'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, who targeted him in response to the street call, by saying, "You will respect the democratic reaction that is the constitutional right of the nation. Any order given against this is an unlawful order."

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said, "Calls to the streets made through ongoing judicial investigations are unlawful and unacceptable" regarding CHP leader Özgür Özel's words, "We will be in the squares from now on."

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, in response to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's call to take to the streets, made a statement saying, "The place where the accusations made in the investigations conducted by the judicial authorities will be answered is not the streets, but the independent and impartial judiciary."
