YEMEN, JUL 15 – Execution of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya was postponed after religious leaders and Yemeni family negotiated diya payment under Shariah law, officials said.
- Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdo Mehdi in 2017, faced a scheduled execution in Yemen on July 16, 2025.
- The execution was postponed by Yemeni authorities following interventions by Muslim leader Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar and ongoing negotiations including a proposed blood money deal with the victim’s family.
- Nimisha, who moved to Yemen in 2008 as a nurse, was allegedly subjected to harassment and financial control by Talal before the killing, which complicated the case amid Yemen’s political instability and lack of formal diplomatic ties with India.
