Xinhua Silk Road: Dialogue promotes mutual learning, exchanges between Liangzhu and Samarkand cultural heritages

On Monday, July 6, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City in Hangzhou, China, hosted a cross-civilization dialogue with Samarkand, Uzbekistan, attracting over 100 participants to discuss heritage conservation strategies.
Marking the first partnership between the 'Liangzhu and the World' program and an Asian world heritage site, the event aimed to consolidate China-Uzbekistan cooperation in archaeological research and earthen-site conservation during its fifth year.
Before the dialogue, the Uzbek delegation visited a world heritage monitoring center, exploring Liangzhu's integrated conservation approach and public engagement strategies, including AI-powered smart glasses and digital technologies.
Yang Xiaoping, deputy director of the Management Committee of the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, stated, 'We hope not only to share Liangzhu's experience in heritage conservation but also to learn from Central Asian cities in heritage operation and management.'
Farhod Nishonov, deputy mayor of Samarkand, praised Liangzhu's systematic model, planning to leverage the sister-city relationship with Hangzhou to promote joint exhibitions, two-way cultural and tourism exchanges, and youth programs.
