Xi vows to strengthen China’s military, fight corruption in key speech
Xi said the party must prepare for mounting risks and turbulence as China seeks to protect its long-term goals and expand global influence.
On Wednesday, Chinese President Jinping addressed the Great Hall to mark the 105th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party, vowing to "uphold the party's absolute leadership" over the military and accelerate modernization.
Jinping's anti-corruption efforts have removed senior figures, including two defense ministers in the past three years, reducing the once seven-member Central Military Commission to just himself and one other general.
The Central Military Commission published measures to "establish iron rules for strict education, strict management, and strict supervision" of senior cadres, while Jinping urged the CCP to "resolutely wage the critical, protracted, and comprehensive battle against corruption."
Reaffirming Beijing's stance on Taiwan, the president called unification an "unswerving historical mission" and urged China to "oppose interference by external forces," positioning the party as having "significant global influence."
Marking the party's founding on July 1, 1921, Jinping described the CCP as the world's largest ruling party with more than 101 million members, asserting it possesses the "genuine support of the people.
