WWE filed the Cruz Montana trademark and Santana said the name honors his late father before his NXT debut.
On Monday, WWE confirmed that former TNA World Champion Mike Santana will now wrestle as Cruz Montana, appearing tomorrow night on NXT.
Montana explained on X that the new ring name serves as a tribute to his late father who passed away 6 years ago, describing himself as "ADDICTED TO GREATNESS."
WWE filed a trademark for the name last Friday, following his surprise debut last week when he confronted NXT Champion Tony D'Angelo without speaking.
Fans noted that NXT commentators Booker T and Vic Joseph avoided using his former ring name during broadcasts, mirroring the recent rebranding of Nikki Blackheart to Reina Volcan.
After losing the TNA World Championship to Nic Nemeth at TNA Slammiversary, Montana promised to address fans tomorrow, stating, "For the first time, we get to hear what Cruz Montana has to say.
