1 Dead, 1 Injured After Shooting at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets; Suspect in Custody
Police said a 22-year-old Detroit man is cooperating as investigators examine an earlier altercation that preceded the mall shooting.
On Saturday, a shooting at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, Michigan, left a 20-year-old Pontiac man dead and a 19-year-old Pontiac woman injured. Police took a 22-year-old Detroit man into custody at the scene.
Preliminary investigation by Auburn Hills Police suggests the violence stemmed from an earlier bathroom argument between the suspect and the victim, as the men crossed paths again near the food court.
The suspect, a concealed pistol license holder, claims he was jumped by the victim and an unidentified man. Authorities are actively searching for a second person believed involved in the altercation.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated, "There is no danger to the public at this time," as deputies assist with the ongoing investigation. The mall remains closed during the investigation.
This shooting marks the second deadly incident at a Metro Detroit mall in eight days, following a July 3 attack at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn that killed two 19-year-old men and injured another person.
