Woman arrested in 'murder' case of six-year-old schoolboy

  • On Monday, May 25, 2026, Gardai arrested a woman in her 50s in connection with the murder of Kyran Durnin while executing a search warrant at a domestic residence in Drogheda, County Louth.
  • Gardai upgraded the disappearance of Kyran, who was six when last seen in June 2022, to a murder investigation in October 2025 after the child was reported missing in August 2024.
  • Kyran was reported missing in August 2024 alongside his mother, Dayla Durnin , by grandmother Rhonda Byrne Tyson after they stayed at her home in Drogheda.
  • The suspect is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, marking the third person held during the investigation.
  • A National Review Panel report into the case remains unpublished after the Attorney General advised it could "prejudice any potential or future prosecutions," Minister for Children Norma Foley said.
