Woman admits being in charge of dangerously out of control XL bully when it killed a teenage girl in Bristol
Reed admitted being in charge of the dog as the Crown Prosecution Service considers the basis of her plea before July 9 sentencing.
On May 27, Kelcie Reed, 24, appeared at Bristol Crown Court and pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dangerously out of control XL bully that fatally attacked 19-year-old Morgan Dorsett on February 26 last year.
The XL bully named Prince mauled Morgan Dorsett inside a flat at Cobhorn Drive, Withywood, South Bristol, causing fatal neck injuries; the dog was subsequently put down following the attack.
Reed's barrister Sarah Regan told the court the plea was entered on a basis, meaning Reed disputed part of the prosecution's case, with the Crown Prosecution Service requiring two weeks to consider this contested element.
Judge Martin Bicton warned there was a 'strong likelihood of immediate custody' at sentencing, ordering a pre-sentence report before the July 9 hearing where Reed will learn her fate.
The case reflects broader dangerous dog restrictions in England and Wales; other banned breeds under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act include pit bull terriers, Japanese Tosas, dogo Argentinos and fila Brasileiros, with XL bully ownership now requiring exemption certificates.
