Wizards Rule Out Top Pick A.J. Dybantsa for Season Opener
Brian Keefe said the first overall pick is day-to-day after a mild ankle sprain, leaving Bilal Coulibaly or Tre Johnson as replacement options.
Head coach Brian Keefe announced Tuesday that Washington Wizards forward AJ Dybantsa will miss Wednesday's season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks with an ankle injury.
Dybantsa suffered the injury during Friday's preseason finale against the New Orleans Pelicans after landing awkwardly on his left ankle following a jump shot.
Before exiting in the second quarter, Dybantsa scored 12 points in 14 minutes, with Keefe describing the injury as a "mild ankle sprain."
With Dybantsa sidelined, the team is considering Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly and Tre Johnson as potential starters, each offering distinct defensive and offensive strengths.
Dybantsa's next opportunity to debut will be Friday at home against the Toronto Raptors before the team travels to face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
