Bucks waive Kevin Porter Jr. as they finalize their season-opening roster
Porter averaged 17.4 points and 7.4 assists before Milwaukee chose younger backcourt options in a roster crunch, officials said.
On Monday, the Milwaukee Bucks waived guard Kevin Porter Jr. ahead of the NBA's roster deadline, finalizing their backcourt composition for the season.
The roster move reflects the team's retooling during its first season without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was traded to Miami in the offseason.
Although injuries limited Porter to 38 games last season, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 17.4 points, 7.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals when available.
Waiving Porter opens playing time for younger backcourt performers including rookie Brayden Burries and 20-year-old Kasparas Jaku ionis, who will complement returning guard Ryan Rollins and 2025 All-Star Tyler Herro.
The Bucks open their regular season on Wednesday in Washington after selecting Burries out of Arizona with the 10th overall pick in this year's draft.
