Wimbledon clings onto fashion traditions, with a twist
Players are required to wear almost entirely white, while some add subtle personal touches that still fit Wimbledon's strict tradition.
On Monday, Naomi Osaka walked onto the All England Club grass in a kimono-inspired white dress, successfully adhering to Wimbledon's strict all-white dress code requirements.
Wimbledon maintains the circuit's strictest dress code, requiring "suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white" to hide sweat stains historically considered improper in aristocratic settings.
Osaka revealed the design was inspired by her Japanese heritage and the film Kill Bill. "I think about the most iconic silhouette, which for me is a kimono," she said.
All England Club chief Sally Bolton confirmed the outfit meets regulations, stating, "We're very relaxed, so long as it meets the all-white dress code."
Male players including Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz are increasingly using clothing for self-expression, with stylist Michaeloff noting a broader trend toward distinct aesthetics at the tournament.
