AAP Wins Confidence Motion in Punjab Assembly Days After RS Setback; CM Bhagwant Mann Slams Rumours of Split in Party
Mann said the motion shows AAP remains intact after seven Rajya Sabha MPs switched to the BJP, as opposition members walked out.
On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann secured a decisive victory in a confidence motion within the Punjab Assembly, dismissing widespread speculation about instability within the Aam Aadmi Party .
Following the April 24 defection of seven of the party's 10 Rajya Sabha MPs to the Bharatiya Janata Party , defectors including Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak alleged the party had abandoned its core values.
During the vote, the Opposition Congress staged a walkout while BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal members boycotted the session, leaving only one Independent MLA and one BSP legislator present in the 117-member House.
Mann dismissed rumors of a party split as 'a creation of the Opposition Congress,' while Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema accused the BJP-led Centre of allegedly 'misusing' central agencies against political rivals.
The Chief Minister emphasized AAP's national presence across Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, and Jammu and Kashmir, asserting his government remains strong ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
