Outgoing minister Femke Wiersma (Agriculture, BBB) wants to gradually introduce stricter rules for animal welfare in livestock farming. In 2040, animals must live in stables where they can display their natural behaviour. For example, cows will go outside more often, piglets will stay with their mother pig longer and chickens will have more space.
