QUADEVILLE, ONTARIO, JUL 12 – A 17-year-old from eastern Ontario faces attempted murder and sexual assault charges after a prolonged investigation overturned initial animal attack theories, police said.
- On Tuesday, the Ontario Provincial Police arrested a 17-year-old boy from eastern Ontario, charging him with attempted murder and sexual assault in the attack on an eight-year-old girl in Quadeville, Ont.
- On June 25, the OPP said investigators believed the child's injuries resulted from an animal attack, describing them as 'consistent with an animal attack'.
- During the overnight search, the canine unit found the girl with life-threatening injuries along Quadeville Road just after midnight on June 24.
- Saturday evening, Ontario Provincial Police held a town hall at the Quadeville Community Centre, with nearly 100 attendees and 'meeting was meant to dispel misinformation', Bill Dickson said.
- As the town seeks healing, Sarah Darraugh said the local church will set up additional services on Sunday, while counselling and victim services arrive next week and OPP will offer support.
