New Orleans Preparing to Travel for Thanksgiving
Nearly 73 million will travel by car and 6 million by air, with traffic and airport congestion expected to reach record levels, AAA said.
- On Tuesday, Nov. 25 AAA forecasts nearly 82 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the Thanksgiving period from Tuesday, Nov. 25 to Monday, Dec. 1 in the United States.
- Because holiday visits remain popular, AAA expects an additional 1.6 million travelers this year, with Stacey Barber, vice president of AAA Travel, noting Thanksgiving is synonymous with family time.
- Most travelers will drive, with at least 73 million hitting the road, including close to five million in Florida, while around six million air travelers and Tampa International Airport expect about 80,000 daily passengers.
- AAA warned of heavy crowds and congestion on roads and at airports, flagging the Long Island Expressway as a hotspot on Tuesday, Nov. 25, while FDOT, Florida Highway Patrol, and TSA urge planning for longer waits and parking.
- AAA suggests using airline apps and signing up for notifications, avoiding checked bags, reserving parking at least 24 hours in advance at park.flymsy.com, and consulting AskTSA.
