WEC Brazil: BMW pips Ferrari to second Hypercar win of 2026

Vanthoor, Magnussen and Marciello earned BMW’s second Hypercar win in three races after a late fuel-strategy gamble beat Ferrari by 2.2 seconds.

  • On Sunday, Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello, and Dries Vanthoor drove the #15 BMW M Hybrid to victory at the World Endurance Championship's Six Hours of São Paulo, finishing 2.2 seconds ahead of the #51 Ferrari 499P.
  • Leading much of the race, the #15 BMW lost the net lead when Vanthoor ran wide in the penultimate hour, handing the advantage to James Calado's #51 Ferrari. However, the BMW carried more fuel, enabling a shorter final pit stop that allowed Vanthoor to regain the lead.
  • In the LMGT3 class, the #34 Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Peter Dempsey, Charlie Eastwood, and Salih Yoluc took top honors. Toyota, this year's Le Mans winner, struggled, with the #8 Toyota finishing 17th and the #7 Toyota placing 12th.
  • The #12 Cadillac V-Series crewed by Will Stevens and Norman Nato claimed third place, while Earl Bamber, Sebastien Bourdais, and Jack Aitken finished fourth in the #38 Cadillac after recovering from a five-second penalty.
  • This victory marks BMW's second win in three races, significantly boosting the manufacturer's prospects in the Hypercar title fight following their earlier success at Imola in May.
