Flood Watch Continues. Periods of Moderate to Heavy Rain Possible
NORTHERN GULF COAST, JUL 16 – Invest 93L may develop into Tropical Storm Dexter as it brings 2 to 7 inches of rain and flash flooding risk across the northern Gulf Coast, officials said.
- A tropical disturbance is set to move over the Gulf Coast, with impacts starting today, announced the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
- Before moving offshore, the disturbance must draw energy from warm Gulf waters, with water temperatures off Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana around 90 degrees.
- By Wednesday, areas could see up to seven inches of rain, while Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana could receive heavy rainfall.
- With rainfall shifting westward, flash flood alerts are in effect, and the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center has flagged a moderate Level 3 flash flood risk for Friday.
- The National Hurricane Center maintains a 40 percent development chance, noting that if it forms, it would be named Tropical Storm Dexter.
