As of 1 June, the Landesamt für Bergbau, Energie und Geologie (LBEG) of Schleswiger Stadtwerke GmbH has assigned the permission field "Schleswig" to investigate geothermal energy from more than 400 metres depth. The field is just over 157 square kilometres large.
Vulcan Energy has announced the opening of the first new geothermal well, part of its Lionheart Phase One Project, at the Schleidberg site near Landau, Germany. Drilling is carried out by Vercana, a wholly owned drilling subsidiary of the company. The start of drilling in Schleidberg represents the fifth well in the area of Phase One Project in Vulcan.
