Travelling aboard an icebreaker from Longyearbyen, competitors reached the Geographic North Pole after several days at sea. There, polar specialists marked out a safe course, protected at its perimeter by Polar Bear guards. The marathon began at 08:48 CEST, with runners battling poor visibility and biting winds.
