Resignation Shakes AIADMK: Veteran Leader Steps Down
Semmalai said the party has weakened under ego-driven leadership and poor internal discussion, while ruling out a move to another party.
Veteran leader S Semmalai resigned from the AIADMK on Monday, submitting his resignation letter to AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and citing deep dissatisfaction with recent party developments.
Political turmoil within the AIADMK intensified after EPS removed senior leaders including C V Shanmugam and SP Velumani from organisational posts following a confidence motion vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Addressing reporters in Salem, Semmalai claimed the party is weakening due to the 'ego of leaders' and absence of healthy discussion, adding he felt sidelined following former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's death.
Semmalai stated internal conflict reports have damaged the party's image, with media outlets mocking the 'internal party conflicts,' though he ruled out joining any other political party.
The intensifying factional battle deepens uncertainty for the AIADMK ahead of future political contests in Tamil Nadu as the party struggles to recover from electoral defeats since Jayalalithaa's death in 2016.
