EastEnders, Coronation Street and Children's TV Legend Dies, Aged 86

His sons confirmed that Ray Brooks died peacefully on Saturday following a short illness, at age 86, with his family at his bedside.
His voice defined the 1970s, as Ray Brooks voiced Mr Benn and starred as Joe Macer in 119 EastEnders episodes.
Brooks demonstrated range by leading Cathy Come Home, and his film work included The Knack... and Carry On Abroad.
Fans took to X to honour his legacy, with one user writing 'RIP, that’s sad. Good actor and terrific voice,' and another wrote, 'Sad news- another wonderful actor from the iconic Cathy Come Home to Big Deal & EastEnders.'
Although only 13 episodes of Mr Benn were made, they aired twice a year for 21 years, and his five-decade career across television and film ensures his legacy endures.
