Venezuela to Withdraw From International Criminal Court
- On Friday, Venezuela informed the United Nations of its "irrevocable" decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, citing what Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia called the body's "bias" against countries in the Global South.
- The Hague-based International Criminal Court has been probing alleged crimes against humanity in Venezuela since 2014, prompting the National Assembly to vote last year to cancel commitments to the Rome Statute.
- Interim President Delcy Rodriguez ordered the move to align with the United States, echoing Secretary of State Marco Rubio's accusation that the ICC is "waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles, but with statutes, compacts, and the force of so-called international law."
- Coinciding with Venezuela's announcement, ICC member states dismissed top prosecutor Karim Khan on Friday, while the United States previously imposed sanctions on the tribunal under President Donald Trump.

Chancellor Félix Plasencia reported yesterday that Venezuela notified the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, of its “firm and irrevocable” decision to denounce the Rome Statute and begin the final withdrawal of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in accordance with article 127 of the treaty.
