Vance Says that It's Pretty Clear that Texas Sen. Cruz Is Planning to Run for President
On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance told NBC News that it is "really obvious to me that, at this very moment, Ted Cruz is running for president" in 2028.
Cruz recently stated he has not coalesced around Vance as the 2028 nominee and continues raising money and campaigning in Iowa and South Carolina, states that traditionally hold early GOP contests.
The Texas Republican cast the party's future as a choice between a "small-government, free-market conservative party" and a "big-government, nanny state party," while securing a legislative victory with the Protect College Sports Act.
Vance remains noncommittal regarding his own 2028 ambitions, stating he will wait until after the November 3 midterms to decide while focusing on the next 35 days of campaigning.
Reports indicate Cruz is planning a presidential bid, though the prediction market Kalshi gives the senator just a 2 percent chance of securing the 2028 nomination, following his unsuccessful 2016 campaign against Donald Trump.
Will U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance run for president in two years? The politician suggested in a new interview that the results of the upcoming midterm elections could help him make his decision.
