India slams Pakistan at UN, says military remains country’s ‘real rulers’
India said Pakistan is using UN forums to deflect from economic distress, lawlessness and minority rights concerns while the military remains in control.
- On Saturday, First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN Raghoo Puri accused Pakistan of attempting to "paint a propagandist picture" of India at the UN General Assembly's Third Committee, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.
- Islamabad's actions aim to divert attention from domestic challenges, including economic distress and rampant human rights violations from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan, Puri said, urging the Pakistani delegate to prioritize her own citizens.
- Invoking the term "Form 47 government," Puri stated that the administration "dare not override instructions from the Pakistani military," describing the Fauj as the country's "real rulers."
- Questioning Pakistan's record, Puri underlined that minorities have shrunk dramatically there since independence, while emphasizing that India is the world's most multi-religious society with constitutional safeguards for religious and linguistic minorities.
- India agreed with the Special Rapporteur that protecting minority rights is primarily a sovereign responsibility, Puri said, noting that India remains ready for open, candid conversations in multilateral forums to address complex challenges.
